November was a busy, busy, busy month for me. It started with a weekend-long research trip to London, followed by two weeks of marking undergraduate essays and tutorials, then another two weeks of marking undergraduate assignments and tutorials. Last weekend was spent in the Highlands on the department's annual Reading Weekend. While we were there, it snowed in the Highlands, and more shockingly, it snowed in the Lowlands! Snow accumulation in the Lowlands of Scotland in November is unheard of! Snow in England before Christmas (even at Christmas) is also unheard of! The entire United Kingdom ground to a halt... for 5 inches. My German housemate and I now understand why so many British colonists died during their first winters in North America: the British have absolutely NO IDEA what to do with the snow! They only JUST got around to doing something to my street: they put down salt, but didn't bother to actually remove the snow before putting down the salt. So really it just made things worse!
Oh, well! Here are some photos of the snow, and of the Christmas decorations in my flat! As per Tapscott tradition, the tree went up on Thanksgiving Day!
Also included are some photos of my new flat. Some of you have been asking for them since I moved in in September. Sorry for the delay, I only JUST got around to uploading them to my computer!
